Lindy Cameron's Office
Lindy Cameron's Office

In a time of ancient gods and warlords… a land in turmoil cried out for a hero. She was Xena…

Oh, sorry, that’s a whole other story.

This is my story, or rather the place where I write my stories, the space where I make things up and write them down or type them out.

Sometimes I write factual stuff (like true crime) but mostly I invent people and places, or put imaginary people in real places, and give them something dangerous to do or escape from, or a MacGuffin to follow thither and yon, until I engineer an exciting edge-of-the-seat dénouement (or some other French word) that will have readers begging for a sequel.

In this space, watched over by a legendary bard and her friend, a mighty princess, forged in the heat of battle; the power, the passion, the danger – oops, there I go again – I write, I think, I write, I procrastinate, I write.

Often I sit at my desk – built by my girlfriend – and stare out the window at our Zen pond-garden and marvel at how lucky I am to have my own elephant.

We have an office in the house, but we don't use it much.  We're so used to "have laptop / will work" that we work anywhere.

Here it's the dining room (which is as close as we can get to the Coffee Machine so we both tend to gravitate here).

Really we work in the car (mobile telephone hooked to the netbook), we work in the Dining Room, we work in the office, in shopping centres, carparks, beside lakes, down the paddock, when we're at fairs and agricultural shows, when we're in the pub.

These days, wherever we are is "the office".

Living in Central West Victoria, on a small farm, just about every window we look out of - we look at Paddocks, or animal enclosures, or towards our fledgling Apple Orchard.

This shot is from last Winter, a rainy day and the 4 alpacas kushed against the rain.

I’m surrounded by visuals, prompting me to envisage my future publishing success… Until it becomes reality.

My space includes: my Gallery of Dreams (the mock book covers); the Vision Board (my latest projects); and the Third Eye which reminds me to cultivate and expand my creativity.

A lush, sub-tropical jungle where strange exotic creatures – brush turkeys and a giant striped goanna – lurk and stalk.

There’s nothing like a backyard in the burbs of Brisbane.
